Baratang Island is one of the most extraordinary day-trip destinations from Port Blair — a journey through the Jarawa Tribal Reserve, across mangrove creeks by motorboat, to reach the spectacular Limestone Caves and active Mud Volcanoes. It is one of the few places in India where all three exist together, and the convoy drive through the forest reserve adds a genuinely unique dimension to the trip.
Limestone Caves: Reached by a 30-minute motorboat ride through narrow mangrove channels. The cave formations — stalactites and stalagmites — are among the finest in the Andamans.
Mud Volcanoes: One of only a handful of active mud volcano sites in India. A short walk from the boat landing.
Parrot Island: At dusk, thousands of parrots return to roost — an extraordinary natural spectacle best seen from a boat.
Baratang requires an early start — convoy leaves Port Blair by 6 AM. Book through a registered operator as the tribal reserve has strict entry regulations. The full day trip takes 10–12 hours.
