History, heritage and the Andaman's beating heart
Port Blair — officially Sri Vijaya Puram — is the capital and the gateway to the Andaman Islands. Almost every visitor passes through it, and while it lacks the pristine beaches of Havelock or Neil, it more than compensates with history, heritage, and the best departure point for island-hopping across the archipelago.
Cellular Jail (Kala Pani): The most significant historical site in the Andamans. Built 1896–1906 to house political prisoners from colonial India. The Light & Sound Show every evening is moving and not to be missed.
Ross Island: The former administrative headquarters of the British, now a picturesque ruin of churches, bakeries, and officer bungalows — all reclaimed by nature. A 10-minute boat ride from Port Blair.
North Bay Island: Home to the iconic lighthouse and some of the best sea-walking and glass-bottom boat experiences near Port Blair.
Corbyn’s Cove Beach: The most accessible beach from the city — good for an evening dip and a walk.
Chidiyatapu: The best sunset point in Port Blair, 25 km south of the city through lush forest.
